The Guyana Amateur Basketball Federation (GABF) yesterday announced that the Federation International Basketball Association (FIBA) will be hosting a Coaches’ Course in Guyana, and as such is asking the near 40 Level I Coaches locally to participate.
“This Level II Course is open to all FIBA certified Level I Coaches in Guyana, and is scheduled for October 17 through October 20,” the GABF release noted, adding that the main Presenter of the Course will be FIBA International Expert, Edwin Peña.
“Mr. Peña has been giving such courses since 2005. He will be ably assisted by a nutritionist and a sports medicine specialist,” the release went on to state. The GABF recognises that training of coaches is an integral part in the development of basketball in Guyana.
The local federation said that it is extremely pleased that Coaches are afforded the opportunity as the certification ensures that all basketball coaches are equipped with proper technical knowledge of the game, and ultimately that our players benefit from such expertise.
“GABF expects our Level I coaches to take this once in a lifetime opportunity to upgrade their skills, and utilize the opportunity to its fullest,” the release ended; all current Level I Coaches are asked to contact GABF General Secretary, Michael Burnett on telephone number: 265 7202.
