GNIC beat GYO by five wickets on the second and final day of their Hadi’s first division cricket match at the MSC ground yesterday.
Scores: GYO 1767& 171, GNIC 231 & 117-5.
Resuming on their overnight 188-6 in their first innings, GNIC reached 231 as debutant left-arm spinner Trevon France made an auspicious start to his first division career for GYO by claiming 5-26, while medium pacer Abilash Dookie finished with 3-40.
GYO were then bowled out for 171 in their second innings despite 32 from Wazeer Mohamed and another aggressive innings of 27 from fast bowler Leon Scott, who thumped three sixes towards the end of the innings, pushed GYO past the 150 mark. Kavesh Yadram was the next best scorer with 17.
Off-spinner Premnauth Sookdeo grabbed 5-45 and national under-19 all-rounder Ryan Shun 3-49 for GNIC.
Set 116 to win, GNIC struggled 117-5 despite a confident 43 from left-handed opener Marc Nickelson. Shun, who took on Scott with consecutive hooks for a six and four, supported with 21, while Skipper Dexter Solomon, who was not afraid to use his feet to the spinners, made 20 and Renole Bourne finished unbeaten on 20 when the game ended.
