With the School’s Athletic season well and truly on, a number of those educational institutions are busy preparing their athletes for action at the inter-zone and eventually, the national level. In the Ancient County a number of schools have started this process at the inter house level.
Berbice High School (BHS), on Friday last staged their Annual Inter House Track and Field Athletics and Cycling championship which took place at the Scott Church Ground, Princess Elizabeth Road, New Amsterdam, Berbice.
All six houses took part and at the end of the day, Scrimgeour House emerged as the number one house with 855 points dethroning defending champs Cooper house which had to settle for the runner-up spot on 827 points.
Next was Pugsley House with 780 points; Beharry house 763 points; De Castro house 700 points and bringing up the rear was Mackay house on 524 points.
The respective champion athletes were Under-14 Karcon Samuel (boy) and Tationa Carrington (girl). Under-16 Joel Davis (boy) and Sashi Hercules (girl). Under-18 Seon Jethu (boy) and Ketisha Hicks (girl).
The successful athletes have since commenced preparations for the annual Inter School championships which will be held during this week. Meanwhile, the school also ran off its Inter House cricket competition which was won by Scrimgeour house with Cooper house finishing in the second position. (S. Whyte)
