Technical issues experienced while workers of the Guyana Power and Light Inc. (GPL) was reconfiguring networks in the Ruimveldt area Thursday, sparked an extended outage to the area, the company said yesterday.
According to GPL, the extended outage experienced by its customers within South Ruimveldt Gardens, Roxanne Burnham Gardens and East and West Ruimveldt areas on Thursday was caused while technicians were reconfiguring the network in preparation for commissioning of the New Georgetown (North Ruimveldt) Substation in November.
“Our technicians worked throughout the evening and power was restored to all areas at 23:00 hrs.”
The New Georgetown (North Ruimveldt) Substation is one of seven such facilities being constructed under GPL’s Infrastructure Development Project which is aimed at improving the quality of electricity supplied, system stability, improved voltage regulation, and reduction of technical losses.
