Two goals each from Quacy and Aliester Wilson on Saturday last at the #5 Village ground helped their team, Paradise Invaders, drub New Amsterdam United 4-2 in the feature game of the opening of the Starlight Generation Entertainment, Berbice Cup Knockout Football tournament.
In the first match, Rosignol United got a 2-1 win over a Monedderlust ‘A’ selection after Cougars FC refused to show up.
The tournament organized by Starlight Entertainment and the Monedderslust FC in collaboration with the Berbice Football Association, will see eight clubs battling for a total prize package, inclusive of trophies, of G$400,000.
Rosignol got their first goal in the 24th minute from Tyson Carmichael to command the first half lead 1-0.
On resumption, homesters Monedderslust were forced to response after creating a penalty some three minutes in the game to equalize off the booth of Jernel Watts.
With the inclusion of Kevin Layne Snr. into the midfield during the second half, the home side managed to gain possession but failed to convert goal scoring opportunities as some 12 minutes later, a foul against Monedderlust resulted in a penalty which eventually cost them the game.
Christopher Clarkson converted from the spot to send his team in the lead for the second time and the scores remained unchanged at the end of regulation time.
The feature game of the evening saw a new look Paradise Invaders invading New Amsterdam United to win 4-2.
The physically fit Invaders pressured the experienced NA United, forcing them in defence as they attacked restlessly. Quacy Wilson first converted in the 36th minute to lead 1-0 at the end of the first half.
On the resumption, Wilson got his second chance and made it right in the 56th minute as his side took a 2-0 lead.
Former national youth forward Adrian Adams, took control of his side, and got a chance when he netted in the 67th minute to put the score at 2-1.
Aliester Wilson then followed his brother with a double in the 56th and 89th minutes to put his team in command.
Jamaal Butts contributed to the score sheet in the 72nd minute for New Amsterdam as the score ended 4-2 in the Invaders favour.
The tournament will see another double header fixture this weekend when Mahaicony All Star face Frontline United and Monedderslust FC ‘B’ meet newcomers Pacesetter United at the same venue at 18:00hours.
