Play in the Hearts of Oak Masters Football Club Inter Ward football competition continued on Saturday with another doubleheader at the All Saints Scot Church ground, Princess Elizabeth Road, New Amsterdam.
The tournament, which is ongoing, features eight teams which has been divided into two groups with the top two teams from each group qualifying for the semifinal and the winners the final.
The one hour games are being played on Friday and Saturday evening with double headers on both nights beginning at 19:00 hrs. The teams participating are Group ‘A’ – North New Amsterdam, South New Amsterdam, Fyrish/ Lower Corentyne and Manchester/Central Corentyne, while Group B comprise – Central New Amsterdam, Rose Hall Town, East Canje and Joint Services.
In results of the matches played; South New Amsterdam trash Fyrish 4-0 with Kenny Vanderburgh leading the way with a double in the 31st and 46th minutes of play. Winston Benjamin had earlier opened the scoring in the 9th minute, while Garfield Millington had made it 2-0 with his 29th minute strike one minute before half time.
The other game saw a resurgent Joint Services holding Central New Amsterdam to a 2-2 draw. Stephen Hinds and Kurt Bristol were the men on target for South, while Collis Burnett responded with a double for the discipline services.
The competition is expected to continue on Friday with another double header and two more games on Saturday. At the end of the competition cash trophies and other incentives will be up presented to the top four teams, while a number of awards will be given to outstanding individual players.
