The 22 year old beauty, Katherina Roshana was crowned Miss Guyana Universe, Sunday evening at the poolside of the Pegasus Hotel in Kingston, Georgetown.
Roshana, whose platform was autism, will be representing Guyana at the Miss Universe 2013 pageant to be held on November 9, in Moscow, Russia. The pageant commenced around 20:45hrs with a performance from the Classique Dance Group.
This was followed by the introduction of the eight delegates- Carla Browne, Tiffanie Nieuenkirk, Ayanna Whitehead, Kenwa Cho Quan Yi, Katherina Roshana, Shyon Hoppie, Carlea Chapelle and Alicia Bess.
Following a fashion show featuring Sonia Noel designs and a steamy swimsuit segment, the contestants looked their best in their evening gowns, with Ayanna Whitehead winning the hearts of the majority of those in the audience. She took control of the stage wearing a stunning long black and skin toned dress. This segment saw the contestants remaining on stage as the “special awards” were announced.
Whitehead was chosen by her fellow delegates as Miss Congeniality; while the beautiful Carlea Chapelle copped the ‘Miss Body Beautiful’ title. Katherina Roshana was adjudged ‘Best Smile’. Katherina Roshana was also adjudged ‘Most Beautiful Skin’ in the Miss India Worldwide, and is currently an International Ambassador of Peace, as well as Spokesperson for Step-by-Step school for Autistic children.
She is quite happy to have won the Miss Guyana Universe Pageant, and plans to do her best to make her country proud.
She believes that her title will help her to do more for autistic children, especially when it comes to spreading awareness and have more and more people understand that autistic children are the most innocent of all.
Apparently one fashion show by Sonia Noel designs was not good enough, so after the announcement of the special prizes, there was another, which was followed by a good performance from Jamaican artiste, Alaine, and a massive one by Jumo “Rubber Waist” Primo.
This was followed by Katherina Roshana, Alicia Bess, Ayanna Whitehead and Carlea Chapelle being named the Miss Guyana Universe 2013 top four.
The delegates, after being serenaded by Jumo, had to answer one final question each. The questions were based on the girls’ respective platform. The most accurate and impressive response came from Alicia Bess.
It was stressed however, that the decision for winner was based primarily on a previous question and answer segment which was televised live on NCN Channel 11.
Alicia Bess was the first runner-up, while second runner-up was named Ayanna Whitehead and Carlea Chapelle, third runner-up.
Many were expecting Whitehead to not only be among the two finalists, but to also emerge the winner of the competition, and represent Guyana come next month. However, Katherina Roshana was one of the audience’s favourites from the inception.
