The country’s road fatality figure went up by one yesterday with the death of 69- year-old pedestrian, Omar Hussain, of no fixed place of abode.
Hussain was struck down on the Parika Public Road, East Bank Essequibo, at about 06:15 hours.
Police say their investigations have so far revealed that the driver of motor car HC 664 was proceeding south along the roadway, when it is alleged that Hussain ran into the right front of the vehicle and was struck down.
He was taken to the West Demerara Regional Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
The driver of the motor car is in police custody and charges will be laid shortly.
