The action returns to the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall (CASH), Sunday October 30 next when the Guyana Boxing Board of Control presents the 30th edition of Guyana Fight Night. Notably, the event has been shifted to the customary Sunday night fixture as the recently installed officials of the GBBC remain staunch that this ploy can aid in the return of the large crowds to the venue.
The boast that the card will be entertaining is noted after organizers managed to secure the services of top Jamaican boxer, Glenroy Augustus Beckford in an eight rounds lightweight affair.

Atwell has destroyed all in his path but the promoters have warned him against complacency as his Jamaican foe has heard about him and is preparing ardently for a tough fight. It must also be noted that Beckford has been plying his trade in ‘The Contender,’ the Jamaica’s version of the Guyana Fight Night and is ready to throw down the gauntlet on his foe.
The strategy to reposition the card to Sunday nights is regarded as wise since Guyanese have grown accustomed to the traditional Sunday night card and is more wont to render support. This was one of the revelations made by those officials when some of the pugilists convened at the Avenue of the Republic office of Abdool and Abdools Insurance Brokers at 14:00hrs yesterday afternoon for the official signing ceremony.
Michael Fung is well known for his skillful marketing strategies and his recent appointment to this department after the conclusion of the GBBC Annual General Meeting was meant to give a fillip to the flagging fortunes experienced by administrators in the promotional and organizational structure. He said that already several corporate entities have bought in to new ploys meant to attract patrons to the venue. As such, patrons will now contest for incentives including lucrative gate prizes. Mr. Fung also hinted that GBBC executives are mulling suggestions to engage the boxers in discussions so that they may fully understand their supportive roles towards the success of cards.
Meanwhile, those pugilists that affixed their signatures to their contracts yesterday are all spouting confidence of carting off the spoils. Richard Williamson will engage Dexter ‘The Kid’ Marques in the toughest fight of his fledgling career in the bantamweight division over eight rounds. The two boxers uncharacteristically demonstrated respect for each other yet each boasted of having the relevant tools to win the bout.
Caribbean Boxing Federation (CABOFE) middleweight champion, Edmond DeClou will square off with Derick Richmond in an 8 rounds middleweight contest and the former boxer said that he was really training for a bout against Howard Eastman. Nevertheless, he said that he has already made the mental adjustment and will be going after Richmond with a vengeance.
Richmond is no slouch; he will best be remembered for his brave effort that saw him slugging it out with Syrian boxer ‘The Dentist’ Mahmoud in a fight that ended in a draw. Richmond also defied the odds to register a 3rd round knockout over Romeo Norville when they clashed last year August. He packs a punch and is a determined fighter whose late round rallies have stood him in good stead. Richmond is honing his skills at the Pocket Rocket Boxing gym in Berbice under the tutelage of former champion, Jeff Roberts.
Otherwise, welterweight pugilists, Kishawn Simon and David Thomas go after each other in a 4 rounds welterweight scrap and the former boxer appeared at the press conference full of confidence of repairing his debut loss to Patrick Boston.
The boxers appearing on the amateur segment of the card would soon be announced as officials of the Guyana Boxing Association mull over the best pairs for the card.
Admission to the venue remains at $1,000 for adults with children paying half that amount. Already, the sparks are flying and Kaieteur Sport will be on hand to report on the training sessions of the boxers and the eventual inferno on fight night.
