Dear Editor,
Your newspaper has been and continues to be a major source of inspiration and encouragement for the Guyanese people. It has promoted democracy by simply bringing the news to the Guyanese population. Unfortunately, there are individuals among our population who have sought to take advantage of the situation. They have sought to undermine the ethics and standards of journalism by publishing articles without the common decency of identifying themselves.
Why would someone be ashamed of his own opinion? Fortunately, I have the answer. Any citizen of Guyana ought to be ashamed to write the things which appeared in “Another storm in a Teacup,” in the September 19, 2013 edition of your newspaper.
These were some of the points articulated:
1. The Venezuelans went for “a little sightseeing.”
2. “To claim that there is no dispute between Guyana and Venezuela over territory is ridiculous.”
3. “Relations between Guyana and Venezuela continue to be excellent.”
4. “A little excursion” into Guyana.
This article is very troubling because it seeks to undermine Guyana’s sovereignty. It is every offensive. I particularly resent the fact that this so called “writer” continues to insult the intelligence of the Guyanese people and seek protection by claiming anonymity.
Winston Felix
