Former national player and Caribbean Men’s singles bronze medallist, Idi Lewis, who Coaches at the Malteenoes Sports Club, is currently at the University of Delaware undergoing studies for his International Coaching Enrichment Certificate Programme (ICECP).
“On behalf of the (USOC) United States Olympic Committee, and the University of Delaware, we are delighted to confirm your acceptance to the ICECP that is taking place at the University of Delaware and at the
US Olympic Committee Training Center,” Lewis acceptance letter stated, adding that the course will take place during September 28 – November 1.
According to the document, the programme will conclude following the last module, which will take place in Lausanne, Switzerland in May next year, following which Lewis will make a public presentation of his project.
“Special thanks to the Guyana Olympic Association, Godfrey Munroe on behalf of the Guyana Table Tennis Association for the opportunity. I plan to make the best of it,” Lewis told Kaieteur Sport in a brief comment from the United States yesterday. Lewis has seen immense success as a table tennis coach with top regional players under his smart leadership; Caribbean celebrated juniors Chelsea Edghill and Shemar Britton are among two of his brightest prospects at the Malteenoes Sports Club.
According to the US Olympic Committee website, the mission of the ICECP is to provide national level coaches and those responsible for the development of the sport, national coaching structures in their countries with a practical programme orientated toward developing proficiency in the areas of sport sciences, talent identification, athlete development, coaching education, coaching management, grass roots sport development and ethical aspects of coaching at all levels of competition.
