A businesswoman who tricked a young female into thinking that she would be well pampered in the interior and only work in a bar and earn millions, was charged, after it was revealed that she intended to sexually exploit the woman.
Patricia Crossman, 47, of Lot 3046 North Ruimveldt, was yesterday brought before Chief Magistrate Priya Beharry at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.
The court heard that on June 14, last, at Lot 36 Sussex Street, Charlestown, the defendant recruited and transported a 20-year-old to the interior for the purpose of sexual exploitation. To the allegations, the defendant pleaded not guilty.
According to Police Prosecutor Bharat Mangru, on the said date, the defendant approached the victim, whom she knew and made a proposal. She told the complainant that she would work at her bar at Issano, Essequibo as a bartender.
When the young girl got to the said location, the accused took her to a salon to do her hair and nails. The accused then took her shopping. As she was decked out in a short pants that exposed her rear end a bit, the woman then took her to the bar. Upon their arrival, the girl noticed that a bartender was already there and at that point the accused told her that she is there “to pick fare.”
The matter was later reported and Crossman was arrested and charged with the said offence.
Attorney at Law, Mark Waldron, told the court that his client maintains her innocence. She denies having any knowledge of any human trafficking allegation.
Crossman was remanded to prison until October 22.
