The country’s top junior tennis players will be on show this weekend as the Courts Junior Tennis tournament reaches its knock out stage. Afruica Gentle, Keshon Beaton, Gavin Lewis, Daniel Lopes, Nicola Ramdyhan are amounts several of the top players who will be hitting the courts at the Racquet Centre (Woolford Avenue) and the National Park this Saturday and Sunday.
With their regional experience Keshon Reece and Jordan Beaton, seeded one and two respectively, will seek to weave their way through the field in the Boys 14’s division. Returning recently from the St Vincent’s regional tournament, the top two seeded players will be throwing out at the stops to make the finals. Reece opens against Nkosi Beaton while Second seed Beaton will be flexing his muscles against newcomer Dwight Ferguson, but there may be dark horse in Keenan Persaud who can cause an upset. He (Persaud) too also ventured to SVG.
Meanwhile, at the Racquet Centre on Sunday, all eyes will be on the Boys and Girls 18’s Division where the seasoned crop of junior players who recently returned from international duties will be in action.
The first semi-finals in the boys 18’s pit’s Gavin Lewis against Keshon Beaton who has found this division to his liking after posting good results on regional duties.
In the second semi-finals hard hitting Daniel Lopes will find the going tough when he comes up against Roraima’s Craig Campbell, who is known for his fiery style of play, this makes good for a semi-final encounter.
The Girls Semi-finals looks relatively easy for the top players in Afruica Gentle and Nicola Ramdyhan who will look to book finals places when they come up against opponents they have already defeated in the round robin stages.
Gentle takes Diana Bharat in the first encounter at the National Park, while Ramdyhan battles Johanna Ramsammy. Action gets underway from 9am.
