Dear Editor,
Reference is hereby made to the above caption as it relates to the commencement of the GFF/Georgetown zonal 6 team playoff, on 08.09.13 at the Tucville Ground, with a tripleheader involving Fruta Conquerors, Santos, Pele, B.K Int. Western Tigers, Camptown and Riddim Squad, wherein each team will play each other once (round-robin), with the top 3 teams securing the 3 remaining slots, joining automatic qualifiers Alpha United and Guyana Defence Force. The 5 clubs will be the representatives of the Georgetown Football Association (GFA), in the Guyana Football Federation (GFF) 16 team – 1 Round Premier League.
Editor, once again the notion of the sport’s counter productivity has surfaced, at the behest of the principal players in the administration, emanating from both the GFF and GFA, that both Pele and B.K Int. Western Tigers; affiliates of the GFA, had previously secured 2nd and 3rd positions respectively, in the recently concluded GFF Super League. As a matter of fact previously, the Tigers led by 2 times champions Alpha United, secured the runner-up spot! So, how and why Pele and Western must participate in a playoff? While GDF by some frivolous ruling is granted an automatic place!
Editor, is it the more things change the more they remain the same. That the army lineup is purported to have won the GFA/President’s Beer 2013 League! The definition of a League is “when each team plays each other once or twice, over one or two rounds”. And the team finishing with the most points is declared the winner! If two or more teams finishes with the same amount of points then, Goal Difference and Head to Head wins are tabulated to determine the winner. Did GDF play each team in the GFA/ President’s Beer 2013 League? How many teams participated, and which remaining 2 teams brought 2nd and 3rd? What are the final placings and points standing?
In the final analysis, if for some strange reason the GFF along with the GFA (executives) is foisting their undemocratic and non-transparent will upon the 2 clubs, albeit, “witch hunting”, rather than allowing bygones to be bygones, then both teams should submit an appeal to the Federation’s General Council, towards nullifying the biased ruling, while advocating that they both should be automatic qualifiers, in the Federation’s 16 team – 1 Round League. Additionally, the Guyana Olympic Association; General Secretaries, of the, GFF, CFU, CONCACAF and FIFA should all be provided with cc of the Appeal!
It is rather unfortunate that both Pele and Western are being treated as outcasts of the football’s fraternity, primarily due to their affiliation to the then GFF executive, during the turbulent times between the GFA and the GFF. How much more of the vindictiveness must the clubs endure?
