The Demerara Cricket Club (DCC), which has produced a number of outstanding international cricketers, is currently constructing an indoor cricket facility next to their main pavilion in Queenstown.
According to president of the club, Alfred Mentore the project consists of two phase with the first being three pitches (two concrete and one matting) which will be fenced and is estimated to cost G$2.4 to 3 million. The second stage will an upper flat which will be used to host conferences, weddings, work shops etc and is projected to cost G$10M. Mentore indicated that the club had taken this initiative so that the players can keep fit on an off season and it will also help to develop the game. He said that the West Indies Cricket Board had donated $US5,000 to the project while other members such as Chris Barnwell and Trevon Griffith to name a few has also contributed.
He informed that former West Indies captain Clive Lloyd and coach of the Guyana Amazon Warriors Roger Harper, who both hail from DCC, has also promised to assist. Mentore pointed out that the projected is expected to finish with in the next three months and is calling on corporate Guyana to support this venture which will benefit the young cricketers tremendously. He indicated that the club will release a magazine at the opening of the facility to mark their 100 Anniversary which was achieved in 2012.
