– Tees-off on Saturday at LGC
Courts, under their theme ‘Bringing Value Home’, continued to add value to local sports when it yesterday officially announced the return of its annual golf tournament, which is part of their 20th Anniversary celebrations of operations in Guyana.
The best golfers in Guyana will converge on the Lusignan Golf Course (LGC) on Saturday for the competition that will tee-off at 10am. Courts yesterday handed over the sponsorship cheque for the tournament worth $250,000 to LGC officials.
Courts’ Public Relations Officer, Kester Abrams stated that they are
proud to be associated with the sport and to be once again hosting the event. Abrams said that Courts is happy to be on board with a growing sport that has sustained momentum.
“We’re excited to be participating in a series of activities throughout Guyana engaging with the Guyanese public, who are our supporters. Golf is a developing sport here, and Courts is pleased to be a part of its growth and development,” Abrams said.
The Courts PR Officer said that golf is recognised as international mega-sport and Courts hope to bring a similar atmosphere to its event. Vice-President of LGC, David Mohammed indicated that all the leading golfers will compete in the tournament.
Mohammed said that it is one of the calendar golf competitions that they look forward to every year. He applauded Courts for their continued support towards the development of the sport and expressed expectation that the support continues in the future.
“Courts is doing a good job with this tournament. Their plans are good. Last year the tournament was big, and this year it promises to be even bigger. We have all of the top golfers competing for the coveted Champion Trophy,” the LGC Vice-President said.
Dave Mohammed and Joaan Deo are the 2012 male and female champions. Mohammed shot a net 63 from a gross 84 playing off a handicap of 21 while Deo recorded a net 65 from a gross 86 plying off a handicap of 21 last year.
