Thomas Rouse is the oldest finisher
Seventy-nine year-old Thomas Rouse proved that age is just a number when he crossed the finish line in record time to when in the veterans’ category when the Cavalier Sports and Tour Club (CS&TC) hosted a 10K event around the Melanie Damishana ECD community, in observance of Amerindian Heritage month, Sunday September 8 last.
Jamal Janeere walked a strategic race and came in first in the men’s category in the event which was hosted in collaboration with the Green Path Foundation. In all, 27 walkers graced the starting line when activities got underway at Brian Norville shop before proceeding around the periphery of the village and back to its place of origin. Linden Harrison romped home second while Debidyal Harold closed of the podium spots.
Odessa Mofatt was the first female to cross the finishing line with Odina Junor and Lavena Williams occupying the two respective podium spots while in the boys junior category the winners were Chapel Caesar, Asha Millington and Janisha Joaquin, in that order. Jasmin Janneere was the first female to cross the finish line.
The competitors received lucrative prizes donated by several corporate entities and individuals including Public Service Minister, Dr Jennifer Westford, Mings Products and Services Ltd, AH&L Kissoons Ltd, CIDI, Parmanand (Watermelon man) and Dublin Store.
The next event, another 10K race, is also scheduled for the Melanie Damishana community on Sunday September 15 next.
