Urged to share newly acquired knowledge
After several intense training sessions that comprised practical and theoretical applications, 12 amateur boxing coaches from an initial 15, received their instruments after successfully completing a Level One Coaching Course under the auspices of the Guyana Boxing Association (GBA), yesterday afternoon.
The course commenced on June 20 and was conducted during the weekends, where 15 coaches were tutored in the intricacies of the profession, and eventually culminated yesterday with 12 of the participants receiving certificates.
President of the GBA, Steve Ninvalle, delivered short inspirational words to the successful coaches shortly after congratulating them. He further urged them to utilize their newly acquired knowledge for the development of the sport even as he voiced the hope of improvement in the quality of the boxers produced. Mr. Ninvalle also expressed optimism that the number of coaches would increase when the next course is planned.
Mr. Terrence Poole was also heartened by the performances of the coaches who were tested by way of theoretical and practical examinations; all performed exceptionally. Poole also comprised a part of the three member training staff, which included National Coach, Wensel Thomas and Cuban Coach, Francisco Roldon Hernandez. He echoed the words of his President and urged the coaches to return to their respective institutions and dispense their newly acquired knowledge.
Señor Roldon had assisted in the training sessions and yesterday, he completed his tasks with a short theoretical session where the officials were quizzed on several technical aspects of their profession. He was also awarded a certificate in commendation of his input in the course. Wensel Thomas received a similar commendation. Thomas was further lauded for his recent accomplishment of installing a new gym in the Mahaica/Unity ECD area.
One of the participants in the coaches’ course, Andre Chowbay, was drawn from the newly inaugurated institution and will use his skill to tutor pugilists from that community.
Additionally, two women, former professional pugilist, Pamela London and GBA referee/judge, Paulette Nurse, completed the course and were complimented for their performances.
The course also saw the inclusion of two former boxing Champions, Joseph Murray (Fecarbox) and Wayne Harris (world rater), while Sebert Blake will enhance his knowledge when he leaves for Hungary later this month to participate in a high performance course. The other successful coaches are Kurt Kendall, Adrian Thomas, Clairmont Gibson and Clifton Moore.
Please share this to every Guyanese including your house cats.
