Callender 6 led by skipper Ron ‘Maestro’ Callender tallied 79 games on Tuesday last at the Everest Cricket Club Pavilion to come out victorious in Hilbert ‘Bumpy 79th Birth Anniversary Dominoes competition, Hilbert Ali is the oldest member of International 6 Dominoes team.
Coming second was Ali’s 6, which compiled 76 games, while Shew’s 6, which was in a comfortable second place at the end of the fifth sitting, blundered by attacking Callendar’s 6 instead of maintaining their position to bring up the rear with 75 games.
Top scorers in the match were Buddy Prettipaul, Ron Callender with 16 games and Raj Sukhai with 14 games for the winners. Intikhab Ali and Edmund Sammy marked 16 and 14 games respectively for the second placed team, while Terrence Damon and Manniram Shew contributed 17 and 16 games in a losing cause.
Taking a lonely walk down lover’s lane was Mr. Roderick Harry who said that him being loved was strategic since his team ended up being victorious.
Ali’s 6 was captained by Hilbert Ali, Shew’s 6 was led by Manny ‘Packer’ Shew, while Ron Callender was in charge of the winners. The names of eighteen players were placed in a bag and were pulled at random to be placed on the respective teams.
Shews’s six came from Mahase ‘Mugga’ Sanawan, Shawn ‘Wild Card’ Trotman, Orin ‘Super Cool’ Boston, Terrence ‘Stiff Card’ Damon and David ‘MP’ Patterson. Ali’s 6 comprised of Junior ‘Bomb Base’ Ramchurjee, Intikhab ‘Cry Out’ Ali, Jermaine ‘Tek This’ Jackson, Edmund ‘Musca’ Sammy and James ‘AC’ Shew while Callender 6 saw the likes of Buddy ‘Slam Down’ Prettipaul, Raj ‘Spoon’ Sukhai, Eon ‘Hard Card’ Stewart, Kedar ‘Stitched’ Seopaul and Roderick ‘Day Clean’ Harry.
The match was organised by dominoes enthusiast Mannie Shew as a surprise for Hilbert Ali who was given a token for being the longest serving member of International 6.
