Those scrabble players that have been sharpening their skills during practice sessions at the Malteenoes Sports Club will now have an opportunity to demonstrate what they have learnt when the Guyana Association of Scrabble Players (GASP) stages a 2 tiered tournament this Sunday August, 25 in the pavilion of the Malteenoes Sports Club, Thomas lands. Participants will be categorized in Beginners (for those still to win a tournament at any level) and ‘Class B’ (for those players ranked under 1700).
Public Relations Officer (GASP), Moen Gafoor said that the impending tournament provides an excellent opportunity for those lowly rated players to assert themselves in the ratings even as they aspire for selection to the Tri-Nation Caribbean Championship slated for Barbados early next year.
He further urged the players to sharpen their skills on the basics while paying keen attention to their end game strategy as well as increasing their word knowledge. The PRO encouraged the up and coming players to solicit assistance of the senior players so as to enhance their game.
The registration period commences at 09:45hrs and the first tile will be placed at 10:00hrs sharp. Players are advised that those arriving on time for registration will pay a fee of $500 while latecomers will be required to pay an extra $200. Additionally, latecomers will start at a disadvantage as their clocks will be activated in their absence. The tournament is sponsored by H.H. Halim Generator Contractor.
