Tagenarine Chanderpaul stroked a fine half century as Guyana defeated the Leeward Islands by 3 wickets in the seventh and final round of the Regional Under-19 one day tournament yesterday in St. Kitts.
The left handed Chanderpaul anchored the Guyanese innings with a top score of 56 guiding his country to the winning target of 145-7 in 42.3 overs at the Conaree ground. Ashkay Homraj supported with 25. Tristan Hanley and Theron Bassue claimed two wickets each for the losers.
Earlier, Leeward Islands batted first and were reduced to 56-3 in 17 overs, however Powell fought a lone battle against the Guyanese with an even 50, the Leewards being bowled out for 144. Shawn Pereira was the pick of the bowlers with 3-27 while Vishal Narayan claimed 2-24 and Romario Shepherd 2-40.
Winward Islands defeated Barbados by 68 runs at EGSC, Molineaux. Windwards 213 for 9 in 50 overs; Taryck Gabriel 65, Tonius Simon 48. Bowling for Barbados, Aaron Jones 10-1-43-3, Jofra Archer 7-1-32-2.
