– claims spouse attacked him with chopper
A Cummings Lodge, East Coast Demerara labourer is on the run after stabbing his reputed wife to the chest and slashing her face at around 18:45 hrs yesterday. The incident occurred during a domestic brawl that began over claims of infidelity.
Shameeza Mohamed, 27, was reportedly attacked by her irate spouse, shortly after emerging from her bathroom. She has been admitted to the Georgetown Public Hospital, but her injuries do not appear to be life-threatening.
In a telephone interview with Kaieteur News last night, the suspect claimed that he was forced to defend himself after his reputed wife attacked him with a chopper. He has promised to turn himself in today.
Mohamed’s reputed husband said that the incident stemmed from an altercation at around 10:00 hrs yesterday when he came home and saw his wife and a female friend drinking beers with a man.
The husband said that he suspected that the man was having a relationship with his spouse. One of the women at the scene said that the man with whom they were drinking had to seek refuge in her house after Mohamed’s reputed husband attempted to hit him with a stick.
The irate husband was detained briefly at the Turkeyen Police Station but was eventually released on $10,000 station bail.
The injured woman’s friend claimed that at around 19:00 hrs, Mohamed was about to dress after having a bath when her spouse claimed that she was going to meet a man and attacked her. The friend said that she was at home when she heard screams. One of Mohamed’s children then ran over to her apartment and said that the suspect was attacking his wife.
The woman said that she rushed to Mohamed’s home where they saw the still-naked woman clutching her chest.
“She say ‘y’all carry me to the hospital, ah want to live to see muh children,’” the friend said.
But Mohamed’s spouse claimed that the altercation started when his wife pushed him out of a chair, since it was her mother’s furniture. He claimed that he then sat on a bucket and his wife pushed him again and also threw away his dinner when he attempted to eat.
He also alleged that his reputed wife taunted him by indicating that she was going out with someone and even shoved some money in his face.
According to the suspect, he packed some of his belongings and attempted to leave, but Mohamed picked up a chopper and attacked him. He alleged that she struck him with the chopper and that he stabbed her with a knife.
He said that there are neighbours who witnessed the altercation.
The mother of the victim told Kaieteur News that the couple has been together since her daughter was 14 and were constantly fighting.
