Wins for T&T, Dominican Republic

Host Guyana won the Boys U-11 doubles and the Girls U-11 and U-13 doubles, while Trinidad and Tobago took Gold in the Boys U-11, Girls and Boys U-13 and Dominica Republic captured the Mixed Doubles U-11 title when the Guyana Telephone and Telegraph (GT&T) pre-Cadet Table Tennis Championships continued yesterday at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall.
The Guyanese B team pair of Terence Raush and Niron Bissu defeated
their fellow countrymen Tariq Saunders and Kaysan Ninvalle of the A team 13-11,19-17 and 11-4 in the Boys U-11 doubles final. Both teams registered victories in their respective semifinal matches. Terence Raush and Niron Bissu overcame Jonatan Paredes and Sjoerd Guertsen of Aruba 11-7, 12-14, 11-4 and 11-7, while Tariq Saunders and Kaysan Ninvalle beat Ramon Maxwell and Ronico Sealy of Barbados 11-5, 5-11, 3-11, 11-6 and 11-7.
The Guyanese trio of Selinas Jackman, Neveah Clarkston and Abigail Martin got the better of Shurjah Welsh, Ackayla Lucas, Shreya Maraj and Shyana Samnarine of Trinidad and Tobago three games to one to take the top podium spot in the Girls U-11. The host were largely indebted to Jackman who preformed creditably winning two games to put her team on course.
The Guyanese were once again in the winning lane this time in the Girls U-13 Doubles when Selinas Jackman and Neveah Clarkston hammered the Mix team which comprised Idelsa Beaz of Dominican Republic and Mikayla Mathilda of Aruba 11-9, 11-5 and 11-6. Ackayla Lucas and Shurjah Welch of Trinidad and Tobago took Bronze.
Trinidad and Tobago pair of Joshua Maxwell and Jakeem Welsh rebounded to beat Guyana’s Jeremy Singh and Micheal Wong in the final of the Boys U-13 Doubles. After they were locked at 2 sets each with Guyana winning the second and third 11-3 and 11-8 and Trinidad and Tobago taking the first 7-11 and fourth 8-11, the players were given an extra recess period which was due to a power shortage at which time the Guyanese were leading the final set 10-7. When play resumed the visitors probably made good use of their rest unofficial interval and bounced back to win the set 10-12, taking the game 3-2. Jean Claude Hoek and Jeandry Matilda of Aruba finished third.
Idelsa Beas and Jesus Lozano of the Dominican Republic defeated Terence Raush and Neveah Clarkston of Guyana 14-12, 11-5, 11-3 to claim the Mixed U-11 Doubles. Guyana’s Niron Bissu, Abigail Martin, Tyriq Saunders and Selinas Jackman took bronze.
Trinidad and Tobago Boys team of Brandon Lee Young, Messiah Walcott, Aaron Amoroso and Darron Douglas won the U-11 division 4-0, while Guyana B team, which is made up of Kaysan Ninvalle,
Brandon Jaikarran, Yeudustir Persaud and Navindra Persaud took second place with three wins and Tariq Sunders, Terence Raush, Niron Bissu and Isaiah Layne of Guyana A team claimed third.
The twin Island Republic Girls team of Shurjah Welsh, Ackayla Lucas, Shreya Maharaj and Shyana Samnarine grabbed Gold in the Girls U-13 segment, while Barbados’ Jazel Griffith, Janae Lewis and Kenady King captured silver and Guyana A of Kristie Lopes, Simran Bissu and Priyana Ramdhani took bronze.
Trinidad and Tobago stole the spot light in this category by winning the Boys title. Joshua Maxwell, Jakeem Welsh, Brandon Beharry and Roberto Johnson gave them 3-0, 3-1 and 3-0 wins over Barbados, Aruba and Guyana B respectively. However Guyana A beat the eventual winners 3-2. The Guyana A team of Micheal Wong, Jeremy Singh, Khalil Ninvalle and Khalid Gobin took the runner up spot. They also registered a 3-1 victory over Aruba, 3-0 over the Guyana B team, but suffered a 2-3 lost to Barbados who finished third. The Bajan team which consists Marcus Smith, Ramon Jackman, Zari Hinds and Adam King also beat Aruba 3-1, Guyana B 3-0.
The competition continues today.
