Junior cyclist Raul Leal who was involved in a vehicular accident a few months ago and was hospitalized for an extended period said that he is recovering well.
Leal, who suffered broken limbs (right hand and feet) was at the finish line yesterday to cheer on his colleagues at the Inter Guiana Games cycle road race. The young rider was part of Guyana’s winning team last year which won both the Team Time Trials and Road Race.
“I am out of hospital about one month now and the recovery process has been progressing well. The feet is healing very well while my hand still has some way to go, it still has in a steel plate…”
Leal, who was very happy to be supporting his colleagues, said that he expects to be back on his cycle before the end of the year.
“I anticipate that I will be riding again before the end of the year, not competitively but grooving back in. I would like to thank all those persons who have been there for me during a very difficult period.”
Also staying close to Leal in this period of recovery is fellow cyclist Lear Nunes, himself a victim of a vehicular accident almost one year ago. Like Leal, Nunes suffered a broken leg that affected him tremendously but is grateful that he has been able to start some bit of riding even though he still has to limp and uses a walking stick to aid him.
Nunes too, said he wanted to extend gratitude to all those persons who would have rendered assistance to him during his time of need. (F. Wilson)
