A strong group of local racquet wielders will face Suriname today in one of the four disciplines that will be contested in this year’s Inter-Guianas Games which opens today, at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall.
Kaieteur Sport recently caught up with National Table Tennis Coach Linden Johnson shortly after the completion of a session at the Cliff Anderson Sport Hall where he spoke of the team’s preparations and their chances of doing well against their Dutch counterparts.
“I think that the team have a good chance of dominating their
rivals and I say this because we’ve worked hard during training and it is now just a matter of executing what was taught during the period,” Johnson told this newspaper.
Guyana leads the head to head matchup and is the defending team title holders, having defeated the Surinamese in last year’s competition.
The Guyana team is (Boys) – Brytol Murray, Elishaba Johnson, Kyle Edghill, Steffon Corlette, David Duncan, Sheldon Atherley, Kevon Corbin, Sunil Logan and Joseph Johnson, while the Girls chosen are- Akecia Nedd, Priscilla Greaves, Jewel Todd, Anna Joao and Kristie Lopes.
Meanwhile, teams participating in the 8th Pre-Cadet Caribbean Table Tennis Championships started arriving last evening when Aruba was expected to touch down at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport.
According to President of the Guyana Table Tennis Association (GTTA) Godfrey Munroe, the majority of the countries will arrive today for the tournament which serves off tomorrow, at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall.
