…GDF edges GPF in Joint Service category
A THREE man team comprising Shawn Austin, Joshua Ramlakhan and William London representing the Security Department of the Bank of Guyana, did their organisation proud in the recently held Guyana Association of Private Security Organization (GAPSO) Team Hand Gun Shooting competition which was held at the Guyana Police Force (GPF) Tactical Services Unit (TSU) headquarters.
On the same day and for the first time in years, the Guyana Defence
Force (GDF) turned back a strong challenge from the hosts of the day’s activities to take the top spot in the Joint Services Team Shoot category.
The Annual competition was held in commemoration of Mr. George Melville, a former Warrant Officer within the GDF and one of the first to be trained in Skill-in-Arms in England, and who later joined COPS (Guyana) Incorporated, now re-named Sentinel Security Services, where he worked tirelessly to improve the proficiency of Security Officers as it relates to the use of hand guns.
Federal Management Systems Incorporated (FMS) placed second to Bank of Guyana in the Team Shoot, while Austin carted off the GAPSO Best Shots prize ahead of Ramlakhan and Lieutenant Commander R. Nurse doing the same for the Joint Services ahead of Lieutenant Colonel J. Persaud.
Prizes won during the event were presented by Ms. Corletta Melville, the sister of the late George Melville, who in her brief remarks thanked GAPSO for the preservation of her brother’s memory through the hosting of the event.
GAPSO also took the opportunity to thank Acting Commissioner of Police Leroy Brumell, Chief of Staff of the Guyana Defence Force, Admiral Gary Best, the Officer in Charge and ranks of TSU, Guyana Telephone and Telegraph Company and Guyana Oil Company, for their support in making the event a success.
