Pele Alumni Corporation/Collin & Clyde Watson on board
The Pele Alumni Corporation (PAC) of the USA in collaboration with Dr. Collin Watson and Clyde Watson has sponsored the Frank Watson 40th Memorial Anniversary Under-13, Under-15 and Inter Ward/Village knock-out football tournaments which are expected to start on November 24 at Den Amstel.
According to organiser former national football coach and founder member of Pele FC Lennox Arthur, every team that takes part in these tournaments will receive 2-balls with the victorious Under-13 and 15 teams being rewarded with 20 gold medals along with trophies.
The runner-up teams will collect 20 silver medals and trophies. The Most Valuable Player (MVP) in the junior categories will take home one laptop while the Highest Goal Scorer will grab one Apple I Phone; the Best Goalkeeper and defender will also be rewarded.
Arthur said that a 20-member all star Under-13 and 15 teams will be selected by the respective coaches and him after the final and will play each other in a feature match. He indicated that each member of both teams will be given vouchers to assist with their education.
Teams slated to take part in the U-13 competition are Renaissance, Seawall, Western Tigers, Santos, Fruta Conquerors, Campton, GFC and Radium Squad while the U-15 clubs that are expected to battle for supremacy are Uprising, Slingerz, Pele, Den Amstel, GFC, Uitvlugt, Western Tigers and Eagles.
Meanwhile, twenty-four teams will vie for honours in the Inter Ward/Village tournament with the first placed team collecting $150,000, trophy and 20 gold medals; the runner up $50,000, a trophy and 20 silver medals.
The MVP, player with the most goals, most outstanding goal keeper and defender will all be rewarded.
Dekinderen, Mocha, Bagotville, Albertown, Wales, Sophia, Plastic City, Tiger Bay, Goed Fortuin, Newtown Kitty, Stewartville, Kitty, Den Amstel, Pouderoyen, Uitvlugt, Tuschen, Bourda, Kuru Kururu, West Ruimveldt, Timehri, Wortmanville, East Ruimveldt, Werk-en-Rust, Lodge, Eve Leary, Crane, Festival City, West Ruimveldt Estate, North East La Penitance and Kingston are the teams listed to participate.
All matches will be played at Den Amstel Ground with the final slated for November 30.
Frank Watson was a former President of Pele Football Club. He died on December 3, 1973 at age 23.
