The Management Committee for the upcoming Boyce & Jefford Track and Field Classic IV held a workshop yesterday for Competition Officials in Georgetown at the Police Sports Club Ground Pavilion ahead of the August 17-18 mega athletics meet.
The workshop will continue today in Linden for Officials in the Mining Town; the workshop has been deemed necessary in keeping with the organisers aim to provide a quality athletics event with standards akin to international competition.
The workshop deals with such topics as ‘the philosophy of officiating and the qualities of being a good competition official’; ‘Judging the field events’; ‘Starts’; ‘Time Keeping’; ‘Judging track events’; ‘duties of the call room’ and ‘duties of the referees’.
The presenters are the Boyce & Jefford Classic IV Competitions Director, Mark Scott, Technical Delegate, Cornel Rose and experienced official, Pamela Phillips, who especially spoke on ‘time-keeping’ and ‘duties of the call room’.
The fourth Boyce & Jefford Classic will be held on August 17 at the Police Sports Club Ground, Eve Leary with Heats, three track finals and two field finals from 1pm and on August 18, at the Mackenzie Sports Club Ground, Linden with all other finals from 2pm.
