A 33-year-old mason, who was annoyed that his 44-year-old ex girlfriend did not inform him that she had returned to Port Kaituma, brutally stabbed her with a large kitchen knife.
Yesterday, at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court, Seon Jones, of 384 Onderneeming, La Parfaite Harmonie was remanded to prison after the charge of unlawful and malicious wounding was read to him by Chief Magistrate Priya Beharry.
He was not required to plead.
According to prosecutor Vernette Pindar, the victim Yonette Barrington of 62 Hadfield Street, Lodge. is the ex girlfriend of the defendant. On July 9, last, at Port Kaituma, about 19:45 hrs, the woman was at a shop when she saw Jones and called out to him.
Jones became annoyed after he realized that she did not inform him that she had returned to Port Kaituma. According to the prosecutor, Jones then dealt the victim several punches to the face and proceeded to remove a kitchen knife from his waist which he used to stab the complainant. He dealt her several stabs to the body; some of which were on her left arm and breast.
Barrington sought immediate medical attention at a nearby hospital in Port Kaituma and she was transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital.
Prosecutor Pindar objected to bail for the defendant, since the complainant is still a patient at the hospital and is still in a critical state. Pindar added that the defendant has a similar matter of wounding the Barrington which is currently before the Matthews Ridge Magistrate’s court.
The defendant’s lawyer, Trenton Lake, requested for reasonable bail since his client has no prior convictions.
Jones was denied bail and his matter was transferred to Matthews Ridge Magistrate’s court where his case is expected to be heard on August 6.
