Dave’s Television Channel Eight in New Amsterdam in collaboration with the New Amsterdam Blood Bank teamed up for a massive Blood Drive on Thursday in the studios of DTV-8. It was the second such activity and saw several members of the public stepping forward to do the humane thing to give the precious liquid. A similar activity at the TV station was held in 2009.
General Manager of DTV-8, Anita Rambarran, stated that the station was once again approached by the Berbice Regional Health Authority (BRHA) to host another Blood Drive, which the management readily agreed to do. The activity garnered 31 units of blood.
Donors also received treats as well as a discount card for shopping at a West Berbice supermarket. Ms. Rambarran was pleased that the activity was a grand success.
Phlebotomist attached to the N/A Blood Bank, Atrina Hall, stated that the Blood Bank’s aim for this year is 2,000 units of blood and that she is working very hard to reach that target. She was assisted throughout the day by Medical Lab Technician, Justin Kuma of the New Amsterdam Blood Bank.
Kaieteur News’ Leon Suseran (a regular blood donor) as well as Guyana Chronicle’s Michael Khan were media operatives who stepped forward to donate blood, as well as Member of Parliament, Mr. Faizal M. Jaffarally.
