– refurbished Sports Hall hosts showdown
By Edison Jefford
The Georgetown Amateur Basketball Association (GABA) Division I and III playoffs, including the top four teams from its Leagues earlier this year will begin 6pm tonight at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall.
The semi-finals of the playoffs will be played tonight with the number one seeded Trinity Grid Holdings (TGH) Pacesetters facing the number four seeded Pepsi Sonics in one of the Division III semis, while the number two seeded Buxton Heat come up against the number three seeded Colts in the other semi-final of the category.
In the Division I playoffs among the four top teams in Georgetown, the number one seeded TGH Pacesetters play the surprisingly ranked number four Dynas Ravens in what should be a thriller in the featured game of the opening night of the playoffs. In the other semi-final, Sonics, ranked number three, will play the number two ranked Colts.
In the GABA League, Ravens were the only team that defeated Pacesetters to tarnish their unbeaten record. Ravens blew out Pacesetters despite their eventual fourth placed ranking, which signals a riveting semi-final contest among them tonight.
With the migration of Pacesetters Coach, Robert ‘Bobby’ Cadogan to the Unites States, tonight’s game will give some good insight into the future of the top-ranked club. Naylon Loncke will lead the senior players in a rebuilding process against their nemesis.
Royston Siland, Stephon Gillis and Clement Brusche are among the senior players that will be in a straight fight against Ryan Stephney, Ryan Gullen, Akeem Kanhai and nippy guards, Rodwell Fortune and Stephon Henry from the Ravens tonight.
In the other Division I game, Colts will be pressed to continue its ascendancy after new President of the GABA, Michael Singh, took over the team last year; their young players; brothers, Shelroy and Sheldon Thomas and Dave Causway have proven to be giant killers.
They will come up against the well structure Pepsi Sonics with Jason Squires their main offence tonight at the Sports Hall. The event will be a welcome gesture to maintain the momentum which was initiated from the GABA Leagues earlier
this year.
