A man who is accused of breaking and entering Courts’ New Amsterdam store and then escaping from custody after he was nabbed has been recaptured and placed before the court.
Satya Sai Tajnarine of Rose Hall Town, Corentyne, appeared before Magistrate Sherdel Isaacs in the New Amsterdam Magistrate’s Court on two charges of break and enter and larceny and escaping from lawful custody. He was granted bail in the sum of $140,000.
According to prosecutor Sergeant Phillip Sheriff, Tajnarine between July 4 and 5, last, broke and entered the Courts New Amsterdam Branch and stole four laptops, three tablets and two tablet cases and made good his escape. The items are valued at $933,499.
He was subsequently captured in his home town and placed into custody as investigations went on. However, while in custody at the Rose Hall Town Police Outpost, Tajnarine escaped. He was recaptured.
As such he was further charged with escaping while being in lawful custody at the Rose Hall Town Police Outpost on July 10.
Tajnarine was granted $70,000 bail on each charge. He will have to return to the New Amsterdam court on July 29 on the break and enter charge while the escape from lawful custody matter has been transferred to the Albion Magistrate’s Court for July 30.
He is being represented by attorney at law Charrandass Persaud, who in applying for bail, claimed that his client was beaten while in custody.
