A recently opened dental clinic in Laluni Street, Queenstown was yesterday robbed after two gun men entered the premises and escaped with a substantial amount of cash.
The clinic which is owned and operated by Indian national, Dr. Sen Gupta, is located at 122 Laluni Street, Queenstown.
According to a source about 9:00 hours yesterday two men approached the gate and pressed the buzzer.
They then stated that they had an appointment with the dentist.
After the bandits were invited into the building and invited to take a seat, one of the men then pulled out a gun and ordered the front desk staff and the dentist, Dr Gupta, to lie on the ground. They then ventured into a safe where a substantial amount of money is kept, before it was placed in a bag; while the terrified staffers laid on the ground.
The source added that after the bandits threatened to kill the staff members they remained on the ground, while the assailants made good their escape in a Silver Toyota Allion.
The police were then immediately contacted but up to press time there has been no arrest.
Calls to Dr Gupta for a comment from the robbery were to no avail as it was related by a staff that he was in a traumatized state.
However on July 1, two armed bandits escaped with $1.1 million after they robbed Woodlands Hospital around 9: 00 hours that morning.
On that occasion, Sattie Persaud, 47, an Accounts Clerk attached to the Hospital, was reportedly conveying a bag with $1.1M to the hospital’s Accounts Office when she was held up by the two men, one of whom was armed with a firearm.
The men were on that occasion standing in the line pretending to be patients who were seeking medical attention while the clerk made her way down the stairway.
This newspaper was told that the suspects after the robbery ran out of the hospital and headed north toward Lamaha Street, where they attempted to join a minibus.
According to an eyewitness, after the failed attempt the suspects then ran into Waterloo Street where they hijacked a motorcar.
It is unclear if the two robberies were linked.
