The missing body of Calvin Osborne also called ‘Haywood’ or ‘Ras’, 26 of Savannah Park Housing Scheme was fished out of the Canje River late on Saturday evening in the vicinity of the Canje River Bridge.
This was after he disappeared in the Canje River on Thursday afternoon.
Osborne reportedly went to have a bath in the river after completing some chores at the nearby Nyabinghi Headquarters in Tucber Park, New Amsterdam, when he encountered difficulty and disappeared.
According to relatives, the man, who was a heavy duty operator, was away from the area for a period of time.
They told the media that he had left the area in January for the Interior where he practiced his trade.
He only returned to the area early last week and went and joined his Rastafarian brothers at the Nyabinghi compound, where they indulged in sprucing up the compound in preparation for an upcoming event.
One of his “brethren” explained that they would usually go to the river to bathe.
While they would not swim, they would usually go into a small boat in the corner of the river and dip water to bathe.
They could not say how he ended up in the river because he was alone.
But after hearing him cry for help, they hurried to the river only to see him “fighting up” in the middle. “His hands were in the air and he was fighting up, hollering for help,” an eyewitness recalled.
Two “brethrens” immediately plunged overboard in an effort to save him, but by the time they could reach where he was, he had already disappeared. Relatives and police had formed a search party and combed the river after he went missing but it was only after more two days that his body was recovered.
A Post Mortem examination is expected to be conducted soon. Investigations are continuing.
