Dear Editior,
Unlike Freddie Kissoon’s personal ramblings (via his article in the Sunday, July 14, 2013 edition) about “The Thomas Carroll Affair” book written by David Casavis, I’d like to congratulate Mr. Casivis for his bravery on writing a book that all Guyanese should read.
David Casavis did what no Guyanese wanted to do (apart from the usual bottom house who seh, she seh, dem seh etc) he wrote about corruption at the US Embassy, and how Thomas Carroll employed senior police officers as his enforcers. Some of these corrupt individuals (including businessmen) are still around, one particular individual holds a senior position at the Ministry of Home Affairs.
Anyone with the ability to be objective after reading this book (leaving out the bitter stick and personal gripes with certain names being mentioned in the book) should understand that the contents are far more important than whether a sentence was constructed properly or not.
When someone’s objectivity is clouded with emotions, bitterness and gripe, then it becomes easier for readers to determine what’s ‘nonsense’ from what’s not. In any democracy, people should have the choice to decide on whether to buy the book or not, after which they will decide on whether it’s ‘Nonsense.’ The book is available at Austin’s Bookstore (on Church Street) or you can contact me for your copy on 227-8113.
