A woman who decided to heat a knife and burn her son on his hands after she learnt that he took some money has been charged.
Maharani Prashad, 36, a housewife of Reliance Abundant, East Canje, Berbice and a mother of four, appeared before Magistrate Sherdel Isaacs-Marcus on Friday at the New Amsterdam Magistrate’s court and was placed on $20,000 bail.
Prosecutor Sergeant Phillip Sheriff said that on Wednesday, last, the woman discovered that $200 was missing. She subsequently inquired of her 12-year-old son, whether he knew about the money. The boy responded in the affirmative. She then instructed him to go into the bedroom.
The Prosecutor said that the woman then lit the stove and placed a knife on the fire. After a while Prashad allegedly took the hot knife and went to the bedroom where the child was and burnt both of his hands causing the child to receive injuries.
A report was made and the woman was arrested and charged. In court she pleaded not guilty and was granted bail. The matter has been transferred to the Reliance Magistrate’s Court for July 31, where she would make her next court appearance.
She is being represented by Attorney at Law Charrandass Persaud.
