Concerns continue to escalate; fear has gripped some single women of Hampton Court and Devonshire Castle, who continue to be viciously attacked by a rapist.
A resident of Devonshire Castle is contending that the rapist freely prowls the neighbouring communities raping and intimidating only vulnerable single women.
A female resident has indicated that detailed information about the rapist has been given to the Police by women who were the victims, among them a Pastor/Educator and an elderly woman who has said that she was raped on a number of occasions. The general view is that the rapist (man) would be put away and women would be able to live in peace.
Currently, the single women are so scared that they are relocating to ‘safer’ Villages on the Essequibo Coast.
Recent reports from Devonshire Castel indicate that some time Thursday night, an unrecognised individual attempted to gain entry into a single woman’s home at Devonshire Castle by tampering with her door. He had earlier tried to gain entry through a secure window.
The woman who resides with her young children said that she is afraid to divulge information to the police, since she is convinced she might be further attacked.
The woman said that women in these areas are scared, especially at nights, knowing that the likelihood of being attacked and raped is present because the rapist dwells between the two Villages.
Last year, police charged a resident with the rape of a Pastor of Devonshire Castle. That case continues at the Anna Regina Magistrate’s Court. An order by the Magistrate that the suspect relocates to another area has led to the suspect relocating to the City.
But since the alleged rapist has relocated to the City, rape continues to be prevalent between Hampton Court and Devonshire Castle.
