They have staged captivating events for Mashramani, Phagwah and Boxing Day among others, now the Kennard Memorial Turf Club returns with another action packed event when it stages the Digicel Horserace Classic 2013 at the Kennard Memorial Turf Club, Bush Lot Farm Corentyne, Thursday August 1 next and turfites are assured of the high quality events of which they have grown accustomed.
In all, there will be 8 exciting races with the D3 & Lower being the feature attraction. Horses will compete over a distance of 6 furlongs with the winner collecting $900,000 and second place half that amount. The third and fourth places will receive $225,000 and $113,000 respectively.
The one mile event among horses in the B & Lower category is also highly anticipated and turfites are divided over the winner. The winner will be $2,500,000 richer with the second place carting off half of that. The 3rd place will be $625,000 richer with the 4th place earning $313,000.
Big money is also on offer for the winner of the one mile event among the 3 years old horses. This is a qualitative bunch having been born and bred in the Caribbean and top local stables. The M$1.3 on offer for the winner coupled with the $650,000 second prize is enough to persuade the respective jockeys to go for broke and patrons will be the natural beneficiaries.
Otherwise, there will be the G1 & Lower event over one mile, the J1 and lower over 6 furlongs, the race featuring the 2 years old over 5 furlongs and the D3 & Lower over 6 furlongs. Millions of dollars are at stake and the competition is expected to be sizzling hot.
Meanwhile, turfites have been assured of intense action especially since jockeys would be competing under improved track conditions. Another plus is that a stable of well-bred animals will be on show. These include Grand Roje, Dubai Judges, Jet Set Go, The Message, Whadaluck and Ferry Landing among others.
Further, the organisers wish to remind horse owners that the event is being conducted under the aegis of the Guyana Horse Racing Authority (GHRA) and that all of the rules would be applied. The registration period ends Sunday July 21 and late entries will not be entertained. Horse owners can conform to this prerequisite by contacting Justice Cecil Kennard (226-1399, 225-4818, or 623-7609), Niketa Ross (662-4668) Compton Sancho (690-0569) or Roopnarine Matadial aka shine (325-3192).
