The police have confirmed that the injured persons are Tyrone Lewis, 23 years, of Bartica and Keshana Barnes, 18, of Farm, East Bank Essequibo.
A source yesterday told this publication that the firearm holder was involved in an argument with another male at the Platinum Bar located in First Avenue, Bartica when he pulled out the weapon and accidently shot the teen.
It was after another male confronted him that he shot himself in the buttocks.
“She pon the ground screaming for pain and he shouting. We just decide to rush both a dem to the hospital. The man was not in his righted sense (drunk)”, the eyewitness said.
The police said in a statement that another male patron confronted Lewis concerning the incident during which he reportedly made efforts to pull out the firearm, and accidentally shot himself in his buttocks.
Both Lewis and Barnes were then rushed to the Bartica Hospital where they are patients.
The firearm has been seized by the police.
