Shane Luckie netted a brace in the 8th and 18th minute and was ably supported by Nigel Caesar in the 75th and 84th, Marmarlaque Davidson (17 secs) and Duquon Hercules (44th) to lead Christianburg Wismar Secondary School to a 6-1 victory over Kwakwani Secondary and top honours when the finals of the Region 10 Zone of the Digicel Schools Football Championships concluded at the Wisburg Secondary School Ground, Sunday afternoon last.
Cort Simeon pulled one back for Kwakwani in the 72nd minute in what was eventually an inconsequential effort.
The winners were never in doubt as the lads from Wismar looked the more tactical and determined bunch from the onset. The whistle had barely sounded when Davidson sent his team ahead with a spectacular strike and before the break that team had sent an ominous message to their foes with a 4-0 lead.
Wismar Secondary demonstrated superior skill and acute ball distribution that made their adversaries work overtime to stay in contention. Shortly after resumption, Kwakwani’s efforts eventually bore fruit when Cort Simeon performed a solo to register what proved to be his team’s only success. Nigel Caesar struck twice shortly afterwards to widen the gap just before the final whistle.
Meanwhile, Digicel representative, Azaam Alli, traveled to the mining Town to witness the game and assisted in the presentation of prizes after the final whistle. He congratulated the winners and even commended the losers saying that the duel was very competitive.
Mr. Alli told the players that he is impressed with the quality of play even as he pledged continued support, on behalf of Digicel, to the youngsters’ development.
Subsequently, the Digicel representative handed over several pieces of gear including trunks, jerseys and hoses among others to the winning team whose Captain Benney Neblett collected on their behalf.
After receiving the trophy, Neblett assured the Digicel representative that his teammates and management were truly gratified by the corporate gesture.
