Dolphin Secondary School proved that their 15-0 drubbing over Marian Academy last week was no fluke when they inflicted a 6-1 beating of Houston Secondary as action in the Digicel Schools Football Championships continued at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports Ground, Carifesta Avenue, yesterday afternoon.
Leon Richardson continued to impress and netted a double in the 25th and 60th minute to complement his hat trick in the Marian Academy game while Toquwan Clarke breached the opposition’s goalie in the 10th and 62nd minute.
Samuel Hunte scored in the 33rd minute while the sixth goal came
after a defensive error off the boot of Houston’s custodian, Andell Flue, in the 50th minute. Nkosi Jervis saved some face for Houston with a stinger in the 39th minute.
The game commenced at a moderate pace and before five minutes had elapsed one would have noticed the superiority of Dolphin in the skill department. That team’s first goal was disallowed after the referee ruled that one of their strikers was off side.
It hardly made a difference as Clarke was soon back in the opposition’s half and what looked like a sure goal was thwarted after one of Houston’s players brought him down and a penalty was awarded and duly scored.
Joel Pollard attempted to emulate Clarke but though he managed to dribble the ball all the way into the opposition’s berth, his tame kick was scooped up by Houston’s goalie.
Richardson’s first success came after a goal scrimmage where he managed to extricate himself and tucked in the first of his two. Hunte was all grace as he dribbled the ball past Houston’s defensive lineup and then slickly steered the ball to the right of the advancing custodian to send his team in at the half with a 3-0 advantage.
Nkosi Jarvis was Houston’s busybody and on several occasions he managed to dribble his way into the opposition’s berth but failed the find the requisite support from his team mates. It came as no surprise when he eventually broke loose and scored after a solo run from way down the field.
Shamar Wilson the managed to steer the ball into Houston’s berth but that goalie, Andell Flue advanced and broke his rhythm. Wilson tried again and Flue attempted to trap the ball but to the horror of his team mates, he inadvertently steered the ball into his own goal.
Shortly afterwards, Richardson was fouled in the box, took the kick and completed his brace just before Clarke capped the onslaught. The tournament continues at venues countrywide.
