In observance of The Guyana Police Force (GPF) 174th Anniversary, ‘B’ Division has organised a one month of activities to mark this auspicious occasion.
Starting proceedings on Wednesday last was a Thanks Giving Church Service which was held at the Divisional Headquarters in Couberg Street, New Amsterdam. A number of indoor and outdoor sporting activities will also form part of the celebrations.
The Commander’s Road Relay involving the various Sub-Divisions and Units is planned for today beginning at 06:00hrs. The four mile event is expected to attract participation from at least six teams including New Amsterdam/Canje/East Bank & East Coast, Lower and Upper Corentyne & Corentyne River, West Berbice Sub-Divisions along with Traffic Department, CID and Special Constabulary.
A number of ranks and officers were seen going through their paces during the past weeks in an effort to sharpen the stamina for the event.
The race is expected to start at the Caribbean Crusine Restaurant and Bar, No. 2 East Canje, proceed along the main thoroughfare into New Amsterdam to end at Sue Brothers Restaurant at the corner of Main and St. Ann Streets.
The four-member teams must be made up of an Officer, Subordinate Officer, Constable as well as one Female.
The winning team and outstanding runners will be rewarded. Other activities planned during the month include dominoes, table tennis, whist and a fitness walk.
