Smythfield Rockers Basketball Club of New Amsterdam continued their winning ways when they bounced past Fyrish Black Sharks 48-40 to end their round of matches as the only unbeaten team when play in the ongoing Mackeson/Berbice Basketball Association (BBA) first division Top Six competition continued on Sunday last at the Vryman’s Erven Basketball Court, New Amsterdam.
Smythfield Rockers maintained their winning ways despite choosing to field a number of young players who proved that they are excellent support to the more seasoned brigade.
After a slow start, the Rockers eventually found their shooting range and gradually took control of proceedings against Fyrish Black Sharks which trailed 26-17 at the half way mark.
The situation did not change much after the break as the Rockers moved in for the kill to conquer the Sharks.
Michael Bowen led the winners with the game high 20 points. Linden Joseph and Desi Douglas squeezed in nine points apiece for the Black Sharks.
The competition will continue on Sunday when the seasoned New Amsterdam Warriors takes on the up and coming Canje Knights that will see the winner advancing to the next phase.
