Professional bodybuilder Sylvan Gardner did not achieve his aim of winning his category at this year’s Musclemania Universe held in Miami last weekend.
Gardner, who went into the show heavier than the last time, placed 7th of 10 competitors in the Pro Short category which was won by Tyrone Ogedegbe with a final score of 109.2 points following two rounds of judging.
Gardner who won his Pro card in 2008 did not get past the first round of judging, he ended with 89.1 points. Five of the ten competitors made it to the final round of competition.
The Buddy’s Gym Instructor told Kaieteur Sport that the competition was tough having weighed-in at 154 pounds his competition weight was 155 coming up against competitors weighing-in at 180.
“At this level you have to be at your best in order to compete, I trained hard for the show but as I said the guys were all heavier than I was. Looking ahead to shows of this nature, I would have to put on at least 10 more pounds of muscle to be in contention for the top prize”.
Despite only a 7th place finish, Gardner believes that he will be able to do much better next time around and is extending gratitude to all the entities and individuals who would have contributed towards him being able to compete.
