Clonbrook Girls won their first Windball cricket title after defeating Gibson in the final of the Upper East Coast Zone of the Ministry of Culture, Youth & Sport (MCYS) / National Sports Commission (NSC) /Al Sport & Tour Promotions Primary Schools Windball Cricket Championships.
In the final, Clonbrook won by nine wickets. Gibson sent in to bat first made 53-4 with Geeta Boodram 10, being the principal scorer. Bowling for Clonbrook, Sonie Malgie grabbed 3 wickets.
Clonbrook in their turn at the middle reached 54-1 with Adel Barry hitting 22, while S. Malgie returned with the bat to contribute 15.
Former Upper East Coast & Region #4 champions Mahaica are the Zone champions after beating Ann’s Grove by a whopping 55 runs.
Mahaica were invited to bat and they compiled 84-1 off the allotted overs with Orland Haynes 37, Jade Moore 26 and Dale Ireland 16, the main contributors. Ann’s Grove in reply was restricted to 29-8, Rayon Harry made 10.
Bowling for Mahaica, Player of the final Trevon Lewis bagged a tournament best 5-11. In the lone semi-final played, Mahaica squeezed past Clonbrook by five runs. Mahaica made 58-5, D. Ireland 21, Jade Moore 12 and Orlan Adams 10.
Frank Holder captured 2 wickets. Clonbrook replied with 53-6. Meanwhile, Dale Ireland & Orland Haynes was voted joint MVPs of the tournament after they featured in a record opening partnership of 113.
Sports Officer Allister Munroe extended thanks to the Management & Staff of the Unity/Lancaster Community Centre for allowing them the use of the facility.
