Chaitram Persaud, the 43-year owner of the Soca Paradise club at Colombia, Essequibo Coast, was yesterday jailed for four years on a Trafficking in Persons charge.
Magistrate Sunil Scarce handed down the sentence at the Anna Regina Magistrate’s Court.
The charge stated that Persaud hired an underage girl to work at his club during December, 2012.
The court heard that while the minor was hired as a domestic, she was performing sexual favours for men who frequented the club. Persaud was arrested and charged as a result.
The matter reached officials of the Child Care and Protection Agency who reportedly took the victim into their custody.
