The Guyana Cricket Board\Guyana and Trinidad Mutual Fire and Life General Insurance Company Inter County three day competition continues today with Berbice facing Essequibo at the Demerara Cricket Club Ground (DCC), while Demerara will play the President’s XI at Everest.
Rain prevented Berbice from a possible outright victory over the President’s XI, while Demerara gained full points from Essequibo in the first round.
All-rounder Dereck Narine grabbed the player-of-the-match award, while Gudakesh Motie Kanhai picked up a 6 wicket haul; both players will be looking to continue their rich form. Skipper Shawn Perreira bowled well in the second innings and will no doubt look forward to more contribution from his top order batsmen, which includes Nick Ramsaroop, Devin Baldeo and Parmanand Narine.
Essequibo undoubtedly has a talented line up, but the lack of competitive cricket in the county may very well be a major factor for their poor showing in the first round. Ricardo Peters, left arm spinner Herry Green and Rajiv Balgobin were their stand outs, but skipper Ricardo Adams, Mark Gonsalves and Andy Dass must improve their batting in order for Essequibo to come good in this tournament; Adams would also need to bowl with more loop.
With the likes of Brain Sattaur, Tagenarine Chanderpaul and Kamesh Yadram, Demerara can boast of having the most powerful batting line up in the tournament. Their bowling will be spearheaded by Steven Sankar, Devon Lord and pacer Bernard Bailey.
The President’s XI batting will once again be centered on Martin Pestano Bell, Ryan Shun and Denesh Mangal. Leg spinner Vishal Narayan, Yekinie Favorite and Shun are expected to lead their bowling attack.
Both matches start at 10:00 hrs.
