Whenever there is a confrontation, at the centre is a very young person, but this seems to be escaping notice. What is not surprising is the reaction of the public when one of the parties in the confrontation is a policeman.
So a young man is shot and the poor family can afford a high-priced lawyer to look into the matter. There will be more of this, because one emboldened young man is going to attempt a robbery, armed with gun and all.
The comments in the wake of the episode will be revealing.

For some time now the rivers have turned out to be very dangerous. Like the roads, the people controlling vessels are young and untrained. The accidents that have already occurred are just the start of what will become a trend.
There is going to be a boat collision at a speedboat terminal. Again, carelessness would be the root cause. Fortunately, this time there would be no loss of life.

At this holiday season when the affluent Guyanese leave these shores, airlines are usually booked solid. This time the holidays would be spent more in the Caribbean and in Guyana than overseas. And it needs not a magic wand to appreciate the reason.
