Several thrilling fights in the making
They’ve taken the fistic sport to New Amsterdam, Berbice and then to Mackenzie Linden, now the administrators of the Guyana Boxing Board of Control (GBBC) will extend their activities further when they stage the 28th Edition of Guyana Fight Night at the Uitvlugt Community Centre on Saturday June 29 next.
Other than the change of venue everything else remains the same and Revlon Lake will match gloves with Dexter Gonsalves in a 12 rounds scrap for the local Jr./Lightweight title in the main bout of a 4 bouts card that will feature Kelsy George against veteran, Troy Lewis, in a 4 rounds Middleweight encounter.
Welterweight, Lared Stewart, will make his professional debut against Anson Green, also over 4 rounds, while Middleweight, Eversley Browne opposes Romeo Norville in a 4 rounds scrap. The boxers have already signed their respective contracts and are hard at work at several gyms countrywide.
Administrators have said that they have prepared just in case of rain and the ring would be set up under a large tent with similar facilities for patrons. An admission fee of $1,500 will be charged for any part of the ground.
Meanwhile, as Andrew ‘Sixhead’ Lewis continues preparation for the bout against his Jamacan counterpart, Sakima Mullings, Executives of the GBBC have already set the wheels in motion and have suggested a match with the former world champion and Kelsey George for July 29.
A source from the GBBC said that George will have to win the upcoming bout against Troy Lewis in order to clinch the ‘Sixhead’ fight. Plans are also in train to match Andrew Lewis with Mark Austin on a card slated for August.
Should this bout fructify, the two will battle for the local Jr./Middleweight title. Several local pugilists are also training for a card in Jamaica on July 13 next.
