Preparations are underway the second half of the horseracing season, which is set to start on Monday July 1st (Caricom day) with the Ryan Crawford Memorial Turf Club & Sports Facilities (RCMTC&SF) one day mega horserace meet.
With the animals out of action for close to two months and with a number of postponements hitting the sport due to the inclement weather, most of the animals have been fully rested and will be rearing to go. About three weeks remain before the start of the second half of the horseracing season which will see the introduction of the Two year old animals for the first time this year.
Despite the weather the principals of the RCMTC &SF has begun and are pushing ahead with preparations for their Mega race meet set for the club’s facility at Alness, Corentyne, Berbice and which incidentally will be the first for the club for the year.
So far a number of sponsors have indicated their willingness to be on board including Trophy Stall of Bourda Market and Banks DIH Limited, Omai Transportation and Delmur Shipping Company.
Nine events will be contested with over $6M up for grabs in cash, trophies and other incentives.
The lists of events are the B and lower 1400M event with a first prize of $700,000 and trophy up for grabs.
There will be a race for 3yrs old Guyana and West Indies Bred horses, for a winning take of $350,000 over 1200M. The D and lower 1100M sprint will have a first prize of $500,000.
The race for Two Year old Guyana and West Indies Bred Horse will have a winners’ purse of $300,000 over 800M.
The horses running in the F class race will have an opportunity to race away with a first prize of $320,000 over 1400M.
Two-year old Guyana Bred horses will be competing for a $300,000 first prize over 800M.
The G3 and lower event will see the animals racing for a $280,000 winners money over 1400M.
The ‘I’ and lower race will be a 1200M affair with a first prize of $180,000. The J2 and K class event will fetch a winning prize of $125,000 over 1200M.
Outstanding individual performers including top Jockey, trainer and stable will be presented with accolades compliments of the Trophy Stall, Bourda Market and the RCMTC.
The race will be run under the Guyana Horse racing rules.
